It's a little hard to rate this book because I'm not really sure who the target audience is supposed to be. My nephew picked this out from the library, and I do think he learned a few things about giraffes, but I also think he was mostly bored with this book. The information was probably at a kindergarten to second grade level, but it lacked something (explosions, perhaps?), so it didn't keep my nephew engrossed. I think the writing was just too dry.
My niece wasn't with us tonight, but as a fourth grader I am sure
this book would not have taught her too much about giraffes that she doesn't already know. So, who is this book for? Kids young enough to actually find the information about giraffes to be new, but old enough to have well developed attention spans. That, I think, is a pretty small group, and I don't think my nephew or niece are a part of that set.
