Bad News for Outlaws: The Remarkable Life of Bass Reeves, Deputy U. S. Marshal - Vaunda Micheaux Nelson, R. Gregory Christie This was a reasonably interesting book about a very interesting man, and it has certainly made me want to learn more about Bass Reeves. The text in this book was a little too "western" for my taste, but it was appropriate to the time in which this story takes place, and I could really see it appealing to kids (boys in particular?) who are all about the Wild Wild West.

Although this is a children's book, I'm not going to read this to my niece and nephew yet. Neither of them possesses the maturity at this time to fully appreciate Bass Reeves' story, and this is a book about a lawman and the work he had to do in a often lawless territory, so there *are* violent scenes in this story. Neither of the kids cares for "killing" in their stories, and there is some of that here. I'm not sure that my niece will ever come to like this book, but boy, when my nephew is older and has some education under his belt, this one has his name all over it! :-)
