I am biased because the author is my step-grandfather, but I really do love this book. It is primarily a collection of stories that Noel wrote regarding his experiences in the CCC lumber camps during the Great Depression. He tells the stories of the people he met, the experiences he had, and the lessons he learned about his fellow man, nature, love, and faith. Noel tells these stories with a simple voice, a clear heart, a deep faith, and a sense of humor. Many of the stories really can reach out and touch the reader in deep and unexpected ways. Noel also includes some lovely simple poetry in this book. Much of that poetry explores love, beauty, faith, and charity. He was a good man with a good strong heart and soul, and that comes across in this volume.
