Gorgeous illustrations! Really. The color choices were exquisite, and absolutely evoked autumn. I could look at those illustrations all day long.
At various points the story reminded me of The Lord of the Rings, and then of Watership Down, but ultimately it really only echoed those stories and never really fully approached them. For me Mouse Guard : Fall 1152 read more like an outline to a story. I kept feeling like I wanted more backstory, and I kept wondering if I started reading this series with the wrong book. Perhaps a true fan can tell me, did I?
I think that the graphic novel format works for the the expression of this story, but there are gaping holes that I need filled in. I would be wide open to reading more books in this series, but I have got to get the optimal reading order straight first.
